The United States Of Amnesia

President Barack Obama is the worst president since World War II, 33 percent of American voters say in a Quinnipiac University National Poll released today. Another 28 percent pick President George W. Bush.
Ronald Reagan is the best president since WWII, 35 percent of voters say, with 18 percent for Bill Clinton, 15 percent for John F. Kennedy and 8 percent for Obama, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Among Democrats, 34 percent say Clinton is the best president, with 18 percent each for Obama and Kennedy.
Of course, as Gore Vidal famously called us the United States of Amnesia, it is hard to determine if these 33% of Americans can remember clearly the Bush-the-Lesser years: the single greatest terrorism attack in US history, financial ruin, two lied-into wars charged on credit cards, torture, firing US Attorneys to install political appointees, and outing covert CIA agents to extract revenge. Heck, we lost a major American city to Katrina, and even Pluto stopped being a planet.

Well Obama has two years left to invade a few countries and improve his standing, if only there was some way to stop the DOW from rising. //s

Ronald Reagan was the best? The guy who tanked the economy and implemented “trickle down economics” (you know, that great brainstorm that worked out so well for us, also known as “piss on you economics”) was the best? I don’t know, maybe my standards are too high.

If you have a chance, find a copy of The Emporer Has No Clothes by Paul Slansky. Funniest book on the Reagan era ever, and it is all true.

No matter how fast the Republicans try to run away from W, he will always represent who they really are.

The current enemy is always the worst. Approximately 33% of Americans are RWNJs so 33% think the current Democratic POTUS is the worst. I would like to know what the poll would reflect if it only included past presidents. That would give a lot better picture of things.

Well, at the end of his Reign of Error, the dead-enders gave Dubya a 27% favorability rating, which is almost exactly what he got in this poll. Give ’em credit, the Teabaggers are consistent.

Who the heck did they poll, old people who still answer an unknown call on a land line? Ten years from now it will be W by a landslide.

It already is for anyone who has a memory, knows a little history and has critical thinking skills. I wonder what percentage of those polled fall into that category?

I finally had some time to look at the underlying numbers in this poll. On the worst President question, voters under age 49 chose George W. Bush. Only voters age 50 and up, chose President Obama. Among women, it was 30% for President Bush and 32% for Obama as the worst President; e.g. a tie among women when factoring the margin of error.
These sour numbers are driven by men and senior citizens. So as a relatively healthy 62 year old male, my opinion is not the majority in my demographic group. But the cold hard, fact of life is that according to this poll, the people who are most opposed to the record of this President will all be dead in the next 3-4 decades.
Make of that what you will.
