So How’s That Rebranding Working Out, Reince?

There are (at least) two stories that ought to be percolating up to Republican Marketing Genius Reince Priebus’ short attention span today, both of which might have an impact on his attempt to rebrand the Republican Party as new! and with lemon-scented freshness!

The first is of, course, the Hobby Lobby case, of which the theocratic right is so proud, and of which American women ought to be going full-Lysistrata due to Justice Alito’s opinion:

The Hahns and Greens believe that providing the coverage demanded by the HHS regulations is connected to the destruction of an embryo in a way that is sufficient to make it immoral for them to provide the coverage. This belief implicates a difficult and important question of religion and moral philosophy, namely, the circumstances under which it is wrong for a person to perform an act that is innocent in itself but that has the effect of enabling or facilitating the commission of an immoral act by another. Arrogating the authority to provide a binding national answer to this religious and philosophical question, HHS and the principal dissent in effect tell the plaintiffs that their beliefs are flawed. For good reason, we have repeatedly refused to take such a step. See, e.g., Smith, 494 U. S., at 887… [emphasis mine]

…which if you follow all the clauses, Justice Alito says that taking birth control is immoral. And then he tells us that the Supreme Court should not take a stand on birth control being immoral. So thanks for clearing up the slut-shaming stuff, Sparky.  It’s sort of like the back-handed complement, “your father is a drunk, and your mother is a slut, but I like you.”

The second news article that should, perhaps, send a shiver down whatever is left of Priebus’ vestigial spine comes to us from the youngsters:

The chairman of the Mississippi Federation of College Republicans has resigned his post and “will be changing my party affiliation to Democrat in the next few days.”

Evan Alvarez resigned his post this morning, which was made public by a release sent out by MFCR with a copy of his resignation. In the letter, he says that tea party activists have too much of a voice in the party, “and because of that, the platform of the Republican Party has shifted too far to the right in my opinion.” In a separate email to me, he says he has already begun talking with Democrats about joining their party.

Besides Mr. Alvarez being a young person in a party distinctly, well, not young, Alvarez is also of Cuban extraction. Reince, if you’ve lost the youth, and the Cuban youth, well, what chance do you have of attracting the next generation?

Yes, it’s far more moral to be burdened with an unwanted child, who, after being born will be considered a hindrance on society by Republicans.

      Fodder for the canons?

At least the baby will have a purpose.

Speaking of Rebranding. Crickett’s kid riffle Atty called someone who left a message at the company asking for clarification regarding the “child safety” cited by the coroner in the “Accidental” death of a 2 year old. Paranoia runs deep in their Klan.

Yep, the SCOTUS ruling just about makes the saying “Love the fetus, hate the child”, much less a meme and more a reality.

Or as we said in California: “The right to life ends at birth.”

i can’t tell you how angry I am because of this decision and the one that was against the labor unions. Not sure how I am going to channel that anger, but you know it will be within a political activistic mode. How these ethically challenged conservative male justices think that they can decide what is moral without being completely hypocritical is way beyond me. Their misogyny is definitely on full display as is their religious based political agenda. Blech to them.

It’s hard not to be angry, and good for you for channeling your anger. Just pass on to your friends and family how this made you feel, and come November get them all to vote. We can make a difference.

That is the best we can do, channel our anger into positive outcomes. We are educated voters who are devoted to overcoming these wrongs forced upon us by the less-observant so lets just make sure the open minded people who are in our lives are kept aware of the conditions that have been created and make sure we get as many people as possible out to vote.

      You seem surprised.

The Roberts’ Court is a joke and Roberts and his RW buddies know it. I remember reading poll results on the SC and noting that a majority of Americans are very aware of how politicized the Court has become. Every ruling it has handed down recently has been in favor or corporations and against citizens. The Ct. can hand down as many “narrow” rulings as it chooses, but the American people are NOT fooled. We know the five RW justices are ruling based on politics and their personal beliefs, and not on law and precedent. What we really need to do is amend Article III of the Constitution, so that SCt. justices are term-limited. This would limit the damage they could do to our government and its citizens, because the five RWers on the Court are a disgrace to democracy and humanity.
