Frankie Valli On His Rise From Newark Maintenance Man To Music Legend

Frankie Valli, whose “Jersey Boys” movie opens this week, talked to me about his July 4 PBS special and his rise to fame from the streets of Newark, New Jersey. Even as his songs hit the charts, he kept his job with the city of Newark, and when he bought a house it was a two-family, so if things didn’t work out for him in music, he’d have rental income.

    Jimi Hendrix
    Paul McCartney
Joe Long – 4 Seasons Bass player

It was mostly due to the influences Hendrix who had no peer as a musician, and McCartney who all the girls loved that although I am right-handed, to this day I play guitar left-handed.

Joe was the only other prominent pop/rock left hand guitarist I knew of and I followed the 4 Seasons only because of him, not because of Frankie’s undeniable talent and unique sound.

Thanks for the memories Joe. and remember Let’s Hang On to What We Got because we surely have got a lot… …
