Another Day In America, Another Step Towards The Precipice

A look at the Facebook pages of Jerad and Amanda Miller, accused by the Las Vegas police department of being the people who killed to Las Vegas Metro police officers having their lunch, then crossing the street and murdering someone at the Wal-Mart before taking themselves off the planet shows a couple seemingly obsessed with darkness, death, and right wing rhetoric.

MEET THE HAPPY COUPLE

Talking Points Memo has a picture of Jerad and Amanda Woodruff Miller on their wedding day back in 2011.

Photo from Amanda Miller’s Facebook Album

Young love, life full of promise. What happened?

Well, a quick thumbing through their Facebook pages shows that Amanda had more pictures, and Jerad was more into the political rhetoric.

The young couple had a thing about face paint, hard rock and guns.

From Amanda Jared’s Facebook Profile

In this picture from Amanda’s Facebook profile, she refers to Jerad as man of her dreams.

Amanda’s Facebook timeline is barren. Hundreds of photos, but no writings… at least, not any more.

Jerad, on the other hand?

His final entry, the day before the murders/suicides.

Patriot. Jerad had quite a few friends on his Facebook page. One of them, with the same last name, “Liked” what Jerad wrote on his final full day on Earth. Safe bet that authorities will contact everyone on his Facebook page, and hers, to see if anyone had any idea of what was coming.

The pictures on Facebook show there is something a tad off-kilter about this couple that married in 2011 in Indiana.

The love of guns, real and pretend.

Merry Christmas? Is that blood in his nostril?

But really, other than being a bit on the weird side, what was there to watch out for? What could have tipped anyone off that this young couple would allegedly shoot two police officers and cover them with the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag and, according to some reports, a Nazi flag?

Is that sadness in her eyes, madness in his?

They were motivated to leave Indiana earlier this year to lend their assistance and firepower to Cliven Bundy, the deadbeat rancher who is trying to spark a revolution by surrounding himself with militia types and refusing to pay the money he owes the government for grazing his cattle on federally-owned land. Jerad thought he had found a cause to die for.

Yes, that is THE Allen West, the former congressman from Florida.

Yet, according to the story in TPM, Jerad and Amanda were asked to leave the ranch because of Jerad’s felony record. Being shunned did nothing to cool Jerad’s ultra-libertarian fervor. If anything, it seems to have focused him in the days before the killings.

Cruel Irony.

Even before being kicked off the Bundy ranch, Jerad seemed to be looking for a reason to die a martyr to his political beliefs.

With less than a week left in his life, he wrote his final manifesto.

Amanda’s most recent entry still available on her Facebook page is this picture of her and Jerad as the Joker and Harley Quinn.

Jerad’s last photos were taken at an Elvis museum at a Las Vegas hotel and casino.

No idea what set them off. Perhaps disappointment over the lack of a revolution at the Bundy Ranch? Did this young couple, he was 31, she was 22, really believe they could start a revolution by themselves?

The Las Vegas Review-Journal tells what happened, but not why.

The Millers simultaneously executed two Las Vegas police officers Sunday, according to a police official with knowledge of the investigation into the rampage that left two officers and a citizen dead, and the suicides of the Millers.

Officers Alyn Beck, 41, and Igor Soldo, 31, were in their seats at CiCi’s Pizza, 309 N. Nellis Blvd., at about 11:20 a.m. Sunday when suspects, identified by sources as Jerad Miller, 31, and his wife Amanda, 22, entered the rear of the restaurant.

The police official said neither officer had a chance to return fire. The entire attack was caught on surveillance video, police said Monday.

Jerad Miller then covered the officers with the Gadsden flag, a yellow banner with a coiled snake above the words, “Don’t tread on Me,” and placed a manifesto with a swastika symbol on one officer’s body.

According to the R-J, they told neighbors that morning they were going to “murder cops.” But nobody called the police.

Not until the shooting started. Then, it was too late.

Maybe they really believed they were starting the revolution. Who knows? But a month from now, no one will know who they were, and nothing will be done to prevent this sort of thing from happening again here in the only country in the world where this sort of thing happens on a weekly basis.

By the way, radio conspiracy idiot Alex Jones, of whom Jerad was a follower, called the shooting “staged” by the Obama Administration.

There is a sickness in this country. It was too late to do anything about the Millers. If the murder of children in the safety of their classrooms in Newtown couldn’t move this country towards change, this won’t do it either.

In the movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) spared humanity from destruction when he was convinced, “At the precipice, people change.”

How much closer to the edge can this nation get?

Remind me again of why we can profile everybody, except caucasian far right wing firearms fetishists?

Except they are, in this very article: “Being shunned did nothing to cool Jerad’s ultra-libertarian fervor.”

There is nothing libertarian about shooting a local police officer in the back of the head while he refills his soda. The cop was not oppressing him in any way. It was an 100% unjustified murder. Libertarians do not believe in no government, that is anarchists. Libertarians believe government is there for basic human rights and law enforcement, especially at local levels like these 2 cops were, is an important part of that limited government.

This guy was a moron of epic proportions and you cannot hold an entire ideology responsible for his actions.

“Libertarians do not believe in no government, that is anarchists.”

That may be true for the time being, but unfortunately I think there’s a growing strain of anti-government extremism in the libertarian movement. You had Clive Bundy hailed as a hero on the Right, by mainstream conservative politicians and personalities, even after he said that he does not recognize the authority — or even the EXISTENCE — of the federal government at all.

Conservatives are caught in this death spiral, a continuous feedback loop where more and more extreme ideas seem to become commonplace. I sincerely believe that even Goldwater and Reagan would be shocked to see what the conservative movement has become.

Jerad identified himself as a libertarian.

After they, the Miller couple, killed both cops, one of them laid a tea party DON’T TREAD ON ME flag across the body of the dead cop. I am not shocked or surprised this has happened, just terribly sad for those two policeman, the civilian and their families. These kind of people, some who I see writing similar things online and even a few have called Alan think they can “win” their revolution against what they see as a dictatorial fascist government by showing off their guns like little children, bullying others and spewing forth hatred and their own fears, frustration and bitterness. It’s obvious they are mentally ill and no I don’t believe they represent all gun owners but they do represent this hard core fringe element that gets encouraged by cowardly commentators who keep egging them on.

This is what senseless hate does to people. I fear this is just the beginning.

    • Tom Pryor June 9th, 2014 at 22:35

Nah. These idiots will burn themselves out eventually – they’re a small, small minority of the population and the more they go around killing cops and innocent people, the more support for their batshit crazy ideology is gonna vanish among sane, decent folks. Americans just aren’t gonna tolerate a bunch of self-styled
‘patriots” going around murdering our cops. These kind of fools always overestimate their support and overplay their hand – they think they’re starring in their own private version of “V for Vendetta” when the reality is they’re really small time losers that decent people want nothing to do with.

What I don’t get is, why do these idiots think the government is the source of their tyranny. In America, We The People are the government. If we want change we vote for it. If anything, it seems the ultra-wealthy oligarchy would be the source of any tyranny and that would only be because we let them manipulate us into voting against our own interest. If these so called patriots would recognize that they are being played like pawns in a game by the oligarchy maybe things wouldn’t be getting so out of control. We The People need to educate ourselves and not fall prey to the manipulations of the ultra-wealthy oligarchy. It is time to take the power away from the rich. We need to vote and do it in an educated fashion and not make decisions based on sound bites the wealthy feed us through the media.
