32% is non negotiable in my state You must be thinking of florida.texas or one of the many southern states that allow to take more than you make then complain if you wanted more.
sorry to disappoint
Even at 25%, you’re likely getting a tax refund. (ya, single).
Creative accounting of conservatives just don’t add up.
I’m close to that and even with state income tax, my rate is ~10% Fed. income taxes. Add close to that same for Medicare, and I’m still under 20%.
I make about 50k and recently took a job speaking at a professional educational conference. They paid me as a general contractor and did not withhold any money for taxes. They paid my food travel lodging as well as a modest $1000 honorarium for sharing my particular knowledge on a subject.
The Feds took 28% as my marginal tax rate. Being self employed and nowhere near the Soc Sec cap I paid an additional 15.7% in FICA and my state took another 5%. With the remaining $517 I have left I could use it to offset some of my .$6300 a year property tax on my 1100 sq ft home, or I could spend it on food clothing or gas for my car and pay another 10.5% in sales taxes leaving me with $462 dollars in real money. When a modest wage earner has to pay the government more than half his earnings it is a form of Slavery.

$50 k per year gross – 32% off each check like it or not & before health benefit deductions = somebody is spreading big lies that I make 50k per yr.

If you’re taking 32% off the top you need to adjust your W2 witholding. At $50k/yr gross, you should be shooting for 25%, assuming filing single.
