The internet was ‘atwitter’ yesterday over a tweet from @ColbertReport some saw as racist. The tweet (now deleted) was a follow-up on the satirist trashing of the Washington’s NFL’s Teams questionable use of a mascot many feel is disparaging of Native Americans. Colbert humorously suggested on his program that a similar approach reaching out to Asians should be tried. While the on air segment garnered nothing but laughs, many saw the tweet as no joke, even going so far as to starting a #CancelColbert hashtag movement on twitter.

Now, Stephen Colbert says he had no part in sending the tweet pointing out the @ColbertReport twitter account is not his.

For the record @ColbertReport is not controlled by Stephen Colbert or his show. He is @StephenAtHome Sorry for the confusion #CancelColbert,” the network tweeted. “This is a Comedy Central account, with no oversight from Stephen/show.”
