Poineering Liberal Blogger Bartcop, 1953-2014

Terry “BartCop” Coppage, a pioneering liberal blogger who launched his enormously popular Web site eighteen years ago, passed away early today following a prolonged illness. His site combined humor, no-holds-barred invective, and some of the funniest Photoshopped images to emerge from the left side of the political spectrum.

He inspired many of us, and left a legacy of hard hitting yet humorous funny as hell attacks on Republicans. I’m still stunned by the news, but the one thing that sticks out is, he was the first (and maybe the best) blogger for running Photoshop memes.

He will be sorely missed — at least by many of us. “BartCop” has been raising hell, taking names and using the Internet to call out the bad guys longer than the word “blog” even existed, much less became known to the world. He also helped established the concept of political “snark” — of the most viciously biting kind — before that word even existed as well.
