A lesbian couple appears on the Disney show Good Luck Charlie.

This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors,’ a spokesperson told TV Guide at the time.

‘Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.’

It was welcomed by former Disney child star Miley Cyrus who took to twitter last summer, saying: ‘Is this true?!?!?!

‘I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation. They control…so much of what kids think! Life isn’t bright sets & wardrobe & kids becoming superstars! This is INSPIRING.’

The star didn’t have anything to say after the episode aired but hundreds of the show’s fans went online to welcome the development.

However, not everyone was so happy about the news when it was revealed.

Right-wing group One Million Moms, best known for a failed boycott against JCPenney after the chain store hired Ellen DeGeneres as its spokesperson, condemned the episode.

‘Conservative families need to urge Disney to avoid controversial topics that children are far too young to comprehend,’ organizers wrote at the time, according to Lez Get Real.
