The pilot and nine passengers were killed when a fixed-wing commuter plane crashed on takeoff.

The fixed-wing aircraft, described by investigators as a de Havilland Otter Air Taxi that can seat up to 20 passengers, crashed at 11:20 a.m. at the Soldotna Airport near Anchorage.

The plane was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters reached it, officials said. There were no survivors.
