Vermont Moves Toward Legalizing Assisted Suicide

It passed the Vermont Senate and the House will now take it up.

Gov. Peter Shumlin has indicated that he will sign the bill if it reaches his desk, and make Vermont the first state to approve a death with dignity law via the legislative process.

The measure closely resembles Oregon’s Death with Dignity law, which was passed by the voters in 1998. Since then, only one other state, Washington, has adopted a similar law.
